Social Events and ActivitiesBecause Cake and beer are Fuel too

Yes we train, yes we race but Chorlton Runners isn’t just about the running. We have an active social calendar and a tradition of cake.

Coming along to Chorlton Runners for the first time may seem daunting, especially if you don’t know anyone. We do our best to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere – everyone was new to the club once.

Generally speaking our runs are pretty social affairs. On Tuesdays a good few of our runners will hang around in the Bowling Green for a drink, and the legendary landlord Mark puts on some free chips and sandwiches. In fell running season our “Black Sheep” will often go for a bite to eat after their midweek runs. On Saturday mornings after parkrun we’ll usually go for breakfast in nearby Fallow or Wetherspoons. Depending on the weather a few people will usually have a coffee in the Water Park after our Sunday morning runs.

There is a strong tradition of cake in the club: big cakes, little cakes, medium sized cakes – we love them all. If you can bake, or are willing to learn, you will find a warm welcome at Chorlton Runners.

After a big race, such as the Manchester Marathon or 10k, we’ll usually have some kind of social in or around Chorlton. We also have an annual Club Birthday Party (in February) and Christmas Party (in December obviously). There are also club trips within the UK and overseas.

And sometimes, we just go to the pub…

If you want to get a better insight or just ask a few questions you may want to join the discussion on our busy Facebook page where you can see what we’re up to. Alternatively get in touch via the contacts page. Better still… just come for a run and have a flippin beer!
